Car Travelling Tips on Transporting Wigs
When you are an actress that projects a different look all the time, a costume designer, or one with a similar career, you might have encountered problems with transporting wigs properly in your car. You should handle wigs with extra care because they are not like other things you bring into your vehicle wherein you just dump everything on the back seat.
Ideally, wigs are transported using Styrofoam heads with the strands secured by needles. Wigs also keep their shape this way, and the chances of the strands rubbing against each other and being entangled during transport - as is the case when you just put all wigs together in one bag - is prevented. Moreover, to avoid hair strands from sticking on your car seats, you can use hair nets to help keep your wigs in place. These thin mesh-like items are also most beneficial when transporting many long-haired wigs.
However, when you have limited space in your car and your back seat is occupied by two or more passengers, using heads or even compact wig stands can be difficult. As an alternative, you can use appropriate bags or boxes. Simple wigs can be stored and transported on your vehicle using zip-locked plastic bags, one bag for each wig. For added assurance, you can place your wig in the hair net before placing it in the plastic.
Lastly, for wigs with complex hair styles, using hatboxes is best. Place the wig on a head secured with needles then put a net on it. You can then place the entire thing lying down in a hatbox and fill the extra spaces with cloth or towel. By using boxes, you can easily stack them either in the back seat or in the trunk to effectively utilise your car space.
